Classic Example of a Great 1960's Action Movie Poster
So take a look at that poster for "The Dirty Dozen."
Doesn't it just make you go NUTS wanting to see this movie?
It did in 1967. For if the movie is actually rather gritty and takes its time building up to big action(at the climax), the poster suggests this is going to be big, expensive, polished, glorious wall-to-wall action with super great looking guys. And ultra-cool, ultra-tough Lee Marvin at the center of the action, machine-gun a' blazin.
Frankly, a LOT of movie posters of the 60's had this kind of "super duper version" of the movie in the advertising. (A poster for the lesser-known 1964 Western Rio Conchos is kind of the same.)
Moreover, a lot of paperback books had covers like this -- very expensive looking artist's representationsk if not of known movie stars, then of "make believe characters" but still painted with perfect precision -- handsome men, gorgeous women.
Very nostaligic, you ask me.
Anybody know of any similar posters?
