Sunglasses at night

I have always been curious as to why the Doctor's wife was wearing sunglasses in her bed, while reading. It was very late at night.I suppose it is so that we the audience will know what she looks like wearing them but couldn't the writers come up with something better than this?

You're right. As I read your post, I thought it would make sense because she was perhaps trying to cover her eyes, on the assumption she'd cried a lot while waiting on her cheating husband. But I've rewatched that particularly scene and there are no signs for my theory, at least nothing @ make-up.

That is a weird glitch I've noticed as well. In the play, the wife visits Roy in his office during the day. So I suppose they were trying to squeeze in those sunglasses somewhere. But it does stand out.
