Who Picked That Title?

Of all things to call a movie, why Clambake?

Tho I don't like her, I'll never forget when Kathy Griffin was on a celebrity Jeopardy and the category was Elvis movies and she yelled out Clambake. she knew it was wrong.

But why this title? I'm looking at the movie now.

Was it a craze, so they thought it would have appeal? Clambake?

It is a punchy, attractive title that would get attention, that's all. A better name for it would have been "Regatta", "Who Needs Money?", "Miami Thrills" or something like that since the clambake in question is one scene in the film and doesn't have anything to do with moving the plot along.

To my knowledge, a clam bake was never a "craze" like surfing and hot rodding were in the 60s. It is mostly native to New England.
