I know he was sick of doing all the cornball movies even before this one. But to force him to appear in this garbage as late as late as 1967 must have been so embarrassing for him it makes me feel sorry for him.

Indeed. Even though I like this movie (nowhere near as much as I like his films of higher quality, though), that "Confidence" scene just was trash.

Nah, it's cute and warmhearted; the quirky song fits the kid-oriented milieu.

He also had a major concussion around this time which the Colonel used as an opportunity to up his percentage to 50%. This head trauma btw may have cause so many of his later ailments in life:
