Being that my knowledge of Mao is pretty limited, almost non-existent, will I appreciate this movie? For instance is there inside jokes or references that will be over my head? Thanks.
Some places are like people, some shine and some don't.
You can appreciate this movie without any knowledge of Mao. It's more about revolution than Mao. In my opinion, "La Chinoise" is an average movie when you know Godard's best films.
shareActually, there are subtle things in the film that will mean nothing to you if you haven't read any Mao, but it doesn't make the film any less enjoyable.
However, I imagine if you watch this film having read some of Mao's major works, the film will have more impact on you.
