Intentional use of shadow---?



During Arthur's anguished monologue about the Queen and Lancelot, he
pauses next to the throne and the particular lighting and shape of the
chair back cast a strong black shadow on Arthur's face--with an outline
that would have wound up as comedian fodder.

Actually, it's the shadow of Excalibur's hilt.

Actually, even though Arthur is holding Excalibur, the throne also has a large sword motif decoration in the center with two finials on each corner, so it could have been the hilt of the sword on the back of the throne that was casting the shadow.

I thought you were talking about the most substantial use of shadow in the film: his eye shadow.
