Vuestra Leccio'n de Hoy de Literatura Espan~ola

Your Spanish literature lesson of today
Esta'se la gentil dama
paseando en su vergel,
los pies teni'a descalzos
que era maravilla ver;
desde lejos me llamara,
no le quise responder.
Respondi'le con gran san~a:
--?Que' manda'is, gentil mujer?
Con una voz amorosa
comenzo' de responder:
--Ven aca', el pastorcito,
si quieres tomar placer;
siesta es de mediodi'a,
que ya es hora de comer,
si querra's tomar posada
todo es a tu placer.
--Que no era tiempo, sen~ora,
que me haya de detener,
que tengo mujer y hijos,
y casa de mantener,
y mi ganado en la sierra
que se me iba a perder,
y aquellos que me lo guardan
no teni'an que' comer.
--Vete con Dios, pastorcillo,
no te sabes entender,
hermosuras de mi cuerpo
yo te las hiciera ver;
delgadica en la cintura,
blanca soy como el papel,
la color tengo mezclada
como rosa en el rosel,
el cuello tengo de garza,
los ojos de un esparver,
las teticas agudicas
que el brial quieren romper,
pues lo que tengo encubierto
maravilla es de lo ver.
--Ni aunque ma's tenga'is, sen~ora,
no me puedo detener.
There is the gentlewoman
strolling in her garden,
her feet were bare
and a marvel to behold;
she called me from afar,
I didn't want to reply.
I answered her with great anger:
--What do you wish, gentle lady?
With a very loving voice
she started to reply:
--Come here, you the little shepherd,
if you want to enjoy pleasure;
'tis the time for the noon nap
and it's time to lunch,
if you want to enjoy delights
everything will be as you want.
--I have no time, milady,
for me to linger,
for I have wife and children
and an household to sustain,
and my herd in the hills
is in risk of getting lost,
and those who keep it for me
have no food to eat.
--Go with God, then, little shepherd,
for you cannot understand,
that the beauties of my body
I would show them to you;
I'm thin in the waist,
I'm white as paper,
my complexion is as rich
as a rose in the rose bush,
I have the neck of a crane,
the eyes of a hawk,
my nipples are so sharp
that they want to break my bodice,
what I have that is covered
is a marvel to behold.
--Even if you have more, milady,
I have no time to linger.

Recomiendo a todos la lectura del romancero espan~ol. Esos poemas que cuentan historias de amor y de valor guerrero son como novelas de Sir Gualterio Scott en miniatura.
I recommend to everybody to read the Spanish romancero. Those poems that tell stories of love and courage in battle are like miniature novels of Sir Walter Scott.
