Robert Duvall Did Not Like Bonnie and Clyde

Turner Classic Movies has a library of short films where some famous actor praises the work of another famous actor, and then at the end, our narrating famous actor says "For Turner Classic Movies, I'm (blank.)"

HBO Max has a "TCM Hub" and they sometimes show those shorts.

I was watching one the other day in which Robert Duvall covers the career of Gene Hackman and praises him. ("For Turner Classic Movies, I'm Robert Duvall.")

It was interesting enough, and the clips of Gene Hackman in action over the years were great (yep, he was a star, yep, he'll be remembered.)

Early on, narrator Duvall takes note of how an Oscar nomination for "Bonnie and Clyde" early in his career(Supporting; and he lost to George Kennedy for Cool Hand Luke) launched Hackman's career in earnest.

But Duvall preferences his statement with this line(paraphrased): "Now I'll admit that I don't much care for this movie, but Gene was certainly great in it."

Hmm..such a deliberate tidbit...with no follow-up.

Robert Duvall "didn't much care" for Bonnie and Clyde.

Why?

I guess we will never find out.
