C.W. Moss said the car was a 4 cylinder Ford coupe. It was obviously a roadster.

You raise an interesting point.
Was C.W. that stupid...and B & C also that stupid to not know he answered wrong?
Could such a display have been tje intent of the writer or filmmaker?
Possibly.
As a hobbyist (late '36 Chevy low-cab pickup) I jumped to the usual assumption that somebody didn't do their homework. I have seen so much of that with subjects I have some knowledge about like motorcycles and guns.

I would have thought most anyone, especially a young guy with any sort of automotive interest would know that a coupe has a roof and a roadster has a retractable soft top.
You could call a roadster a convertible. The same might be said for a Cabriolet, which differed from a roadster by having roll-up windows whereas a roadster might have the optional soft curtains.
Then there are sedans...
