Criminally Underrated

This movie: a brilliant story with heartfelt romance and tragedy, even comedy, with utterly brilliant performances - I truly believe that Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty gave two of the best performances of the century - and above all, fantastic and extremely influential cinematography from Burnett Guffey. Why so criminally underrated?

My favorite film.

How the hell is this movie "criminally underrated?" It's considered a classic, for Pete's sake.

The acting of both Beatty and Dunaway is much too mannered and overstylized and this glammed up approach seriously meddles with the immediacy of their story. See Altman's Thieves Like Us for a similar yarn that feels naturalistic and frighteningly true. Bonnie & Clyde is good, but much overrated compared to many better films of the era... or 1967 alone (Point Blank & In Cold Blood, above all).

I LOVE the haunting song at the very beginning of the film "Deep Night" by Rudy Vallee. Woody Allen has used it also. Gorgeous.

You must have been living under a rock for many years. In 1992, Bonnie and Clyde was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."🐭
