A perfect cast for Texas Ranger Frank Hamer would've been late J.T. Walsh. He could really play these kind of characters and he looked a lot like Hamer.

My alternate choice would be Ben Johnson for Hamer.

Walsh would've been much too young in 1966, when it was filmed. 22 or 23 years old, depending on when the movie was shot. Hamer was 50. Denver Pyle was 46, so right in the same bracket.

Of course. I'm just saying if it all fitted, Walsh would've been perfect for that role.
