how long had they been together?
I mean before they got married, it never really says how long they had been dating.

I was wondering because I wanted to know how much they had really thought through what being married to each other meant. Given that they were such polar opposites, they would have a whole lot of work ahead of them to make the marriage work. I could imagine how painful the first few years of their relationship would be, if, that is, they stayed committed and survived that long.
It's cutesy and fun to watch, but in realty that would've been some real work.
It has always confused me--I thought at first it was a whirlwind relationship--that they met, checked into the Plaza for 6 days and then got married.
*But* the fact that they refer to each other's parents as "Mom" and "Dad" leads me to believe that they knew each other for a while.
You have to remember that this was set in the 1960s. Dating was very different back then...people of their apparent social status would have gone out a few times, become "pinned" in college, and then engaged. Their dates probably consisted of yachting and going to formal dinners at the club. Paul probably expected Corrie to "outgrow" her quirkiness once the wedding band was slipped on her finger. Corrie on the other hand embraces life with arms wide open and didn't necessarily expect Paul to be a complete 'grown-up" so quickly.
