Composer Nobuyoshi Koshibe's incredible music is seldom mentioned when this series is discussed, but without it, Speed Racer (aka Mahha Go Go Go) would never have been anything like as successful. I've literally spent decades searching for it in soundtrack form (vinyl or otherwise), but I fear the source tapes were discarded long ago. If anyone here knows otherwise, I'd appreciate them saying so.
shareWhen I got to talk to "Trixie", one of the people from Speed Racer Ltd., one of the survey questions she asked was what products I'd be interested in. I mentioned that I'd like to buy Speed Racer soundtracks, and she said that it was one idea that they'd been throwing around for some time, and they might do it in the future. If they haven't done it by now, I would assume that it is because their parent Japanese company said that they could. They'll probably get around to it after the self-buyout, if that ever even happens.

The music fit the speed racer enviorment perfectly, its like another main character. I would love to have some of those tunes.
shareWell, I know otherwise, and no, the source tapes were not discarded. Tatsunoko still has them safely tucked away. As a matter of fact, Vap Records released two CDs with music from Mach GoGoGo in 2002. These two discs have samples of music from every episode of the series, though in some cases only one or two tracks. Fortunately, they included most of the more familiar tracks, particularly from the early episodes of the series. And yes, before you ask, this is the same music that appeared in Speed Racer, and will be easily recognizable to any Speed Racer fan.
The two discs are still available from Amazon Japan, which does do international orders.
