I was reading somewhere there was a new Speed Racer movie coming out. Is it true?

Warner Brothers has had the rights to make a Speed Racer movie since 1985. I think that answers your question.
shareIn '92 I read in Wizard Magazine - I believe it was the introduction of Spawn to the world via a great cover drawing - that a Japanese film company was going to develop a Japanese language live-action Speed Racer since the current American project, w/ JOHNNY DEPP attached to star as Speed!, had been nixed.
Later I heard that that project had also died.
I think with the current state of computer graphics they can now make a movie that is VERY true to the cartoon. Look at Matrix 2 - it is truly a live-action anime. With '92 tech this movie would have been horrible.
With all of the comic books coming to the screen Speed Racer would be as big a hit, if done well, as Spiderman since the original Spiderman cartoon was on here in the states in the same time frame.
It's interesting how Speed Racer became a bigger phenomenon here than it did back in Japan as Mach A Go Go. There have been lots of items that have based around Speed. Toys, games, comic books, and even a new cartoon (which I thought wasn't too bad). You can even buy a Mach 5 of your very own with your choice of manual or automatic transmission.

I cannot imagine Vince Vaughn as Racer X, evertheless maybe casting see something in him to play the role. He is a good actor, but do not see him as Racer X.
