Cast ages vs. character ages!!!

Just started to watch this after having seen the 2002 version. The latter is criticised for not aging the characters very well as they start out young and end young - June in the 2002 version doesn't appear to age at all. However I'm shocked at how old the actors are in the 67 version - Kenneth More, playing "Young" Jolyon was born in 1914 so was 53 when he played the part. His father, "Old" Jolyon is played by an actor only 4 years his senior!! I realise the show wasn't shot in HD so we can't see every line and wrinkle but dear old Ken looks every one of his 54 years when he's supposed to be playing a young father. Oh well - different times, I suppose.
