Music Questions......Help!

I hope there's a "Forsyte Saga" fan out there with knowledge of classical music, who will stumble upon this (someday) and be able to help me out. Occasionally we hear background music taken from various classics. Quite often this is at the beginning of an episode. Unfortunately, no music was ever credited, so I'm having trouble trying to name the tunes.

I do know that the stirring "Halcyon Days," from Eric Coates' "The Three Elizabeths Suite" was used during the opening and closing credits. I've also recognized some Elgar and Smetana. But there are other pieces that I can't put a name to.

In particular:

1. What is the name of the piece being played in the opening of Episode 1? We hear Jo's voice describing the Forsytes and we see the James Forsytes riding to Timothy's in their carriage.

2. In Episode 3, while Mrs. Heron is scolding Irene for refusing Soames (39:50), we hear a piano, then a full orchestra, which continues until 42:00. This one really frustrates me because I feel as though I should know it.

3. At the beginning of Episode 5, as Soames and Bosinney are riding to Robin Hill, we hear music that is played later on in the episode (23:20) when Soames goes back to Robin Hill to check on the progress of his house. In Episode 8 ("Indian Summer of a Forsyte" - 20:23) we hear it again just before Old Jolyon comes across Irene. We hear a little more of the piece here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
