Does anyone know why that character was named "Marvel-Ann"? Is that a nickname or is it supposed to be her real name in the movie? I don't get what that name means at all.
shareActually it is a real name. I knew someone by that name also. It is strange but there a few people with it. The only reason they would name her that is probably the writer knew someone by that name. That is usually how they come up with them. My cousin is a producer and she named my father and me as three as her characters on a tv show. She took my first name and my fathers first and last name and used them on 3 chracters.
shareLOL - LOVE the name Marvel-Anne. Growing up and loving this film, my brothers and I turned the name into 'Marmalade', and for some bizarre reason, I always associated this name with the old Marvel comics.
I think Marvel-Ann pretty much "lived up" to her name in this movie, especially in the "cloister tour" episode in the movie... don't we all recall her taking exxxtra long glances, checking out what seemed to be every nook and cranny in the nuns' cloistered residence ("Marvel-Ann, coommmme onnnnn!!!" and "What's that" - and "never mind, we'll see that later").
I thought it interesting that the producers chose to keep her character (and same actress) used in the sequel, "Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows" (although in the latter, a different actor portrayed her wealthy philandering father!).
I loved that Marvel-Ann was in the sequel! But I always wished that she hadn't changed from the first movie. In the sequel she wasn't bratty and mean anymore! I guess since she was the lead in the sequel, the writers changed her character so that the audience could relate to her better. But that's what I always secretly liked about Marvel-Ann in the first movie - she was such a serious brat!

I wondered about her name since I was a kid and first saw this movie! I wasnt even sure if it was Marvel Ann or Marble Ann! On the Flintstones once there was a baby named "Marblehead" and when ever I saw it, I thought of Marvel Ann

Hello -- Marvelle is French and it means miracle. Catholic girl names often included Anne or Ann as a secondary name. Very Catholic practice of the era.
