Columbia Pictures product plugs in Angels movies

Columbia Pictures, which produced both of the Angels pictures, sure wasn't shy about plugging its other contract stars in these movies, even if the plugs didn't make a lot of sense.

In Trouble With Angels, Rachel moons over magazine spread about middle-aged old-enough-to-be-her-father Burt Lancaster (then starring in studio's western The Professionals) when most girls her age were crazy over younger stars like The Beatles.

In Where Angels Go sequel. . ., boys decorate gym with pictures of such teen faves (not!) as Dean Martin and Stella Stevens (weird in-joke as she was playing a nun in same movie), both of whom also happened to be under contract to studio at the time.

i always thought that burt lancaster line seemed strange.

Of course, they also mentioned stars that were under contract with Columbia in the 1950s - Jack Lemmon and Kim Novak.

Actually, I didn't find it that strange. At that time, guys like Burt Lancaster, Gregory Peck, Dean Martin, were considered heartthrobs for even the younger set. Today, are there not young people swooning over a nearly 50 year old George Clooney?

reply

not really. i'm 17 and the majority of girls don't have enough class to swoon over george. nowadays all they care about is billy joel armstrong and robert pattinson.
