TTWA Trivia - Actress

I'm sure all TTWA fans can recall seeing that elder-lady actress who was on the train with Rachel and Mary in the earliest scenes in the movie... the one who remarked, "Really!? A child *your* age, *smoking*!!!" (to which Hayley Mills replied, "I'm not a child, madam, I'm a midget, with bad habits!"

I know I'm showing my age here, but I'm sure all of my fellow 50-and over fans of this movie can recall that this elder-lady actress was the same one that played "Aunt Harriet" in the "Batman" series that we all loved and remember, from the mid-1960s.

Talk about trivia!!!???! :O

I never made the connection! Thanks for sharing that!

Thanks for that interesting bit of trivia. This is on my list of top five favorite Roz Russell movies. Came out when I was in grade school and love watching it to this day! I was wondering if maybe you know who the actress was that played the nursing home scene with Roz - the one where Mother Superior is comforting an elderly woman - that woman looks so familiar to me, I imagine I have seen her as a character actress in other old movies - do you happen to know who she was? Thanks.

I looked up the extra cast members list and found an actress who was not credited on the list. Her name is Jesslyn Fax. I'm not sure if she is the one Mother Superior is conforting or not. She passed away in 1975, and no picture was available. She has a long list of appearances, from early movies to tv shows, including Batman and The Monkees!!
Hope this helps.

Thank you for looking that up, very kind of you. Perhaps that is the actress, she looks so familiar to me, probably from having seen her as a character actress in other movies or TV. TTWA is one of my favorite Rosalind Russell movies. I was in grade school when it first came out, so it is a nice "blast from the past"!

..oh, you mean Larry Mondello's mom on Leave it to Beaver!

reply

That's Madge Blake who played the lady on the train and Larry Mondello's mother. I also remember her from The Real Mccoys.

I also found an actress by the name of Mary Young who played Mrs. Eldridge and was described as a widow in the movie. So I'm not sure if she's the one who takes another piece of cake from Mary or like ginas1955 said, could be the lady Mother Superior is comforting.

reply

Jesslyn Fax isn't the one comforted by Mother Superior. Fax was in a purple dress and cap, talking to one of the other students that Mary (Hayley Mills) serves cake to.

reply

Jesslyn Fax is the woman in the nursing home scenes who says "I didn't know they were going to take my social security! Did you know they would take my social security?"
