What order?

What order are the Sisters at St. Francis supposed to be?

LEND AN EAR, I implore you, this comes from my heart: I'll always adore you, til death do us part.

The order which ran the true orphanage were the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and TWA looks nothing like them. There was a pic somewhere where Ros met with them. There is anopther where Ros was photgrpahed in habit with a Mercy. Because of the scapular and simple belt, my guess would be something imitating a Benedictine. The squared-out front (in place of a bib)was kind of like what the Carmelites wore; a local international order in the Philly area, the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart, also had a black habit with a square look in the front area. Those are my guesses. I think the person in charge of constumes just tried to make something generical.

Wow, you sure know your nuns.

There are many different types of nuns, each with it's own unique habit outfit. Of course, one of the most obvious is the Sisters of Charity (Mother Theresa's order).

Some are cloistered, some are not.

Just watch one of the Masses with the pope (especially from the Vatican), and you'll see all the different kinds in the "audience". Once I've noticed something like 20 different orders.

I've seen nuns that except for the crucifix, you wouldn't know it was a nun because they wear regular clothes (i.e. Sisters of Notre Dame de Numer), some are covered up to the gills.

Some are old crabby bats, and some are way too young and beautiful to be a Bride of Christ.

That's also what I think, that these were just generic costumes people would look at and say "that's a nun." I do know that the real-life Mary Clancy joined the Sinsinawa Dominican order, but those were definitely not intended to be Dominican nuns in the movie. Dominican nuns wear a white tunic and white scapular - only their veil is black.
