At the elderly ladies' home...
.. One of the ladies has that bird in a cage and feeds it. Are we supposed to think she is crazy feeding a fake bird or is it just a really bad prop?

Probably just a bad prop...and I don't think that this was the key part of the outing to the elderly ladies' home. I think the point was for the girls to learn that not everyone is as fortunate as they are. Some of those ladies were really living in poverty.

Oh, the elderly mother abandoned by her family at Chistmas...
'I did everything for them when they were little. Nothing was too hard'
Still upsets each time I hear it
Oh I agree, that was a heartbreaker. It reminds me of when I worked in a nursing home during the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. There was a lady in there whose family put her in there while they went on vacation. As of the time I worked there, she'd been there about 3 years. So sad.
shareMy take on it is that the lady was not really altogether in her right mind. And the bird was a toy that had a button on the bottom of the cage that made it tweet so she thought it was real?
shareI think she was lonely and pretended the bird was real but she really knew it wasn't.
