I just bought the Criterion Collection a couple weeks ago along with 'Branded to Kill', on a hunch (I thought the covers were cool), I had no idea that they would be as great as they are. 'Tokyo Drifter' is incredible, I was just so blown away by how great of a movie it was, that I had to watch it over and over. It has everything a great movie should have.
Seijun Suzuki is one of my all time favorite directors now, his movies are oozing with style. He was able to pull off a great movie out of a paper thin story. Not to many people can say that. I was most impressed with the use of color in it, but then I watched 'Branded to Kill', and it is on the same level without any color at all.
It really pisses me off that he was forced to do smaller pictures after he made that. The company had no idea, of how much of a genius they had. I am very glad that others enjoy his work as much as I do.
