He has always been a great actor. Maybe you were just born late in his game.
I can't think of a single film of his where Redford's acting isn't top-notch. He's one of many who's shown time and again that good-looking actors can also be good actors.

sharethink you need to watch some other movies of his like the sting, butch Cassidy and the sundance kid, the last castle, brubaker, the natural, the way we were, out of Africa, the horse whisperer, three days of the condor barefoot in the park, and electric horseman. just to name a few but I think I have seen just about all of his movies and all a great but also all are different too
