What's the point of a remake...?

What's the point of remaking a classic if you aren't going to improve on it? And how are you going to improve on a classic?

The dialog is pathetic. Some of the acting is hammy, like a bad community theater production. The cinematography is bland. The sets look like they're from a TV show. What's the point of it all?

"Whatever happened to Fay Wray?"

The story has been opened out and enlarged; there's more action. For instance, what was a short climatic showdown in the 1939 version is more of a big shootout with a saloon blaze in this rendition. Plus this movie's in color and is all-around more modern than the old vibe of the '39 version.

I don't like the color in the 1966 version. I don't know what I don't like about but the color doesn't seem to be as good as in many other 1960s or earlier westerns.
