It's never shown on TV anymore

You would think that even the Fox Movie Channel would show this one, but it NEVER turns up on TV anymore.

It's either the 1939 original classic, or the 1986 TV movie remake.

I've got nothing against the original. It's an iconic western. But this remake has certain elements that make it watchable.

Is it a great western? No. Is it entertaining? Yes.

If the Ford version never existed, this would be an ok western with a semi-all star cast, nice cinematography and music score, and good action scenes.

But having the shadow of John Ford hanging over you has not been good to this
movie.

After all, Godfather III is not really a bad movie either, but when you compare it to the first two, it stinks.

The first Stagecoach remake suffers the same fate.

It's on Film 4 in Britain on Thursday, December 8, 2016. Film 4 repeats films, and I recall it being listed before.

Its on Encore Western channel, May 2017...

...I expect the more explicit, bloody carnage enacted by the Native Americans in the 1966 version -- they are a "villainous, monstrous force to be feared" -- knocked it off the airwaves for a long time.

Today, we watch with a grain of salt. It can be watched with a sense of "that was then, this is now." We've had Hombre and Dances With Wolves in between.

And its really fun. Great music. Great cast(especially the supercool Der Bingle Crosby, reading his every line in an over-articulate sing-song baritone), great action.
