MATT HELM LOUNGE DVD BOX SET REVIEW

I have just bought the MATT HELM LOUNGE DVD BOX SET for $28.99 that contains all 4 Matt Helm films:THE SILENCERS, MURDERERS ROW, THE AMBUSHERS & THE WRECKING CREW. I'm pleased to tell you Matt Helm & Dean Martin fans that all four films on this DVD Box Set are complete and uncut and all of these films on DVD are in their correct original anamorphic widescreen ratio with Dolby Digital Mono Sound. There are Matt Helm theatrical trailers on these DVDs but only trailers from both MURDERERS ROW & THE AMBUSHERS, but no trailers from either THE SILENCERS & THE WRECKING CREW. All these films are on 4 separate DVD discs for each film and 2 DVD discs are 1n 1 one slim DVD case while the other 2 DVD discs are in the other silm DVD case in this DVD Box Set. For this price and the films themselves, I recommend this DVD Box Set to all Dean Martin & Matt Helm fans.

I was about to buy this set but a review on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009RCPWK/104-9758112-0252749?v=glance&n=130
claims these dvds are TV versions with "cleaned-up" stuff for broadcast. Do you know these movies well enough to spot the difference? It would save me shelling out as I live in England with more lenient censorship-laws and have uncut (I think!) VHS copies.
thanks

Hey Gary, with The Silencers, the DVD doesn't show the bad girl's butt when she gets shot, but the VHS version does.

I'm not superstitious 'cause it's bad luck-- Mark Grace

Just got these myself. Not sure but I think these are not only NOT anamorphic widescreen but may in fact be a "cropped" widescreen made by putting black bars over a fullscreen picture to simulate actuall widescreen. That's why you can't see the bad girl's (pantyhose covered) butt.

Rickeybobby--------- Uuuuh yea. I've never heard of a matte, but what it sounds like is like folding a piece of paper at the top and sides to fit a large envelope. The envelope being the video format it is obligated to fit. I say obligated, otherwise why leave out Miss Nancy's heiny? Eh! I'm a stickler for absolute reproduction in any video form. Not just heinys, but scenery, dialog, etc. Don't give me a doctored up copy of any title. Remember "How The West Was Won" shot in cinerama? For years they had a devil of a time getting it right. Being that three cameras filmed a super wide angle shot all in sync. The remakes made to fit all showed lines where the 3 cameras joined up. I bought an updated dvd version digitaly remastered in a wide screen vesion [I'm not sure if it's letterbox or what exact screen dementions] and all the original shots are in the picture in it's intirety. The quality is exellent too. I also have a dvd [obviously remastered] of the silencers and the quality is unequaled. If you didn't know better you'd think it was high def. But... No heiny!

Rickeybobby------ Well I saw the silencers in the theatre and I saw the original "heiny shot" at age 13. So that part must have been over matted. I don't know you have all kind of scenarios. Just like I described in the case of " How The West Was Won" and the cinerama deal.

Nice attempt at DVD's but they are CUT! Maybe someone else will by the rights and get them restored.

reply

That's pretty bogus.
I hope somebody releases the full versions too.
