How does the movie open?
Is Cyd dancing at the running of the credits?
shareThe movie opens with a gunshot and a cut to a stage where strippers appear, one at a time, slyly under the opening credits: a brunette dressed in blue, hair down; a blonde dressed in white, hair up; and Cyd Charisse, dressed in a rusty orange. (Cyd gets a "guest star" credit, and was probably performing her Vegas nightclub act with husband Tony Martin at the time of this cameo appearance.) She sings the song "The Silencers" (actual vocal by Vikki Carr) and does some suggestive choreography, but no stripping- although she begins peeling off the bottom half of her long dress before the scene cuts away.
sharelet's face it, to an impressionable 13 year old, which is how old i and a lot of others in my generation were when we first saw this film, the opening is the best part of the movie and certainly made a strong impression.
in new york in the 1970's, wnew channel 5 used to put this picture along with all the other dean martin/matt helm movies on weekday afternoons for all the little kids to watch when they got home from school. sometimes it was 'zilla week, or dracula week, or science fiction films. and then there was spy movie week when they had coburn's flint movies and martin's matt helm movies. whether i liked them or not (they were a little uneven in quality), i always eagerly waited for this one just to watch the opening. i suspect millions of young male minds were permanently marked by those three minutes. thank you.
You're not kidding....... many a time when I caught The silencers on TV or Cable, I not only liked the story, adventure, and the humor in this Dean Martin classic, I also liked the title sequence.
It had and still does have a quality of innocence around it, like the classic Bond title sequences throuhg the sixties and seventies.
Many people like myself have been trying to find any rare photos of film footage of this sequence... only because of the sheer curiousity of how far did these dancers go? was there any hint of potential nudity from this sequence?
Recently there were photos found of Miss Cyd Charisse from her part in The Silencers opening titles, were she sang(lip-synched), danced, and apparently stripped. There were 2 photos found years ago of Cyd where at the end of the credits you see her unzip and show off her legs; but in the pictures, she showed off her legs, hips, waist, and in one pic her bare bottom.
Goes to show how much this young male mind got marked...and then some.....

Is the photo of Cyd at the top of this movie's page at IMDB the one that you're referencing? If it is, all I can say is: wow!
No blah, blah, blah!
Just watch it online at many legitimate places crackle.com, hulu.com, etc.
Watch close or pause it, there's some actual "side boob" very briefly.
This post sure brought back memories.
shareAdd me to the list of marked young males. Haven't seen it in years, but it's permanently etched into my memory along with Ursula Andress emerging from the surf in Dr No, Ann Margret's closing number in Bye Bye Birdie, and Sophia Loren in Boy on a Dolphin who was probably the first woman who made wet T-shirts fashionable.
shareMoviebuf, you need to waych the movie a little closer towards the middle of the movie. Cyd Charise also plays Sarita the quazi-stripper-dancebabe that got wacked for not turning over the micro film to "Big O's Roger Carmel. I noticed you implied she had a cameo role in the movie. She did look different, but she and the other chic were the same actress [Cyd Charise].

Yes I know, but the question of the OP was simply how does the movie OPEN? That's all I was describing. The middle part, which is actually about 37 minutes into the film, is where Cyd-as-Sarita dances to "In Santiago" (voice dubbed by Vikki Carr) and is probably my favorite part of the film. The lady was a babe her entire film career, and is in her mid-40's dancing here. She kicks a-- in that almost-nude leotard with the strange torpedo polka dots!!
