Cyd Charisse

In the opening of the movie are various women dancing and singing and the last of them is Cyd Charisse. Beautiful woman , elegant , sexy and graceful.
The number that she does ends with her turning sideways and unzipping her gown. When she gets to her knee the rest of it cuts out and begins the rest of the movie. In the DVD version the last 2 or 3 seconds of her number is also cut out and in a search on yahoo and msn i can find no complete video of her routine.
What happens is that in the original movie she continues the unzipping and when she gets to her armpit is when the movie begins.
I can find no explanation anywhere as to why her last couple of seconds were edited out. It showed no nudity , showed no private parts, so why was the rest of her routine censored ? If you go to the IMDB on Cyd Charisse you do see a black and white image of her at the very end.
I dunno.......maybe she asked that it be censored , who knows.

I recall watching it during the late '70s on television, but I'm pretty sure the DVD version was what was presented. I think that much skin, as shown in the stills, would have left an indelible impression on my teenage mind if they shown it unedited. :-D

BTW, there is a color still from the opening scene that, surprisingly, shows her bare butt.

No blah, blah, blah!

You know how some people hear a song and can't get it out of their head? Several days ago, the opening scene from "The Silencers" has been going through my head, although it's been many years since I've seen it.

I went onto youtube and found it and was shocked/surprised that it abruptly cut away. I found a couple other uploads and it was all the same thing, so I came here to investigate. My memory matches your description - that she kept unzipping. With other movies, it's not uncommon for there to be a theatrical release and a different version edited differently for broadcast/VHS/DVD. Perhaps that happened here.

I won't exclude the possibility that my teenaged mind filled in the rest and over the years invented a great, great memory.

I saw the trailer for this movie back in '66 and then watched it when it came out. In the trailer, Cyd keeps unzipping, singing the word "Relax" an extra 4th time. In the movie itself, she sings "Relax" only three times and unzips only to the waist. It has always been that way.
