Why did Tina call Matt Helm 'Eric'?

When we first meet the Tina character, she has just saved Matt Helm from the female assassin by shooting her twice. Her first words are, "It's been a long while, Eric." Matt Helm instantly recognizes her, and calls her "Tina." He doesn't seem to react to having been called Eric instead of Matt.

What is the reason she would have called him Eric if they apparently knew each other, and must have known each other's name?

reply

Eric is his ICE code name. So she probably called him both names during their previous relationship.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense, but... I'm not aware that that detail was ever mentioned in the movie. Did this come from the book (on which the film is based)? I never heard the name "Eric" mentioned any other time in the movie.

I did understand from the dialogue in the film that Matt and Tina had previously been on some sort of operation in Germany (she mentioned something about their being together on the Wilhelmstrasse, and something about an assassin).

It came from the book. The only other time I remember his code name "Eric" being referenced in the film series is near the beginning of "Murderer's Row" when we see photos of the top ICE agents(British, French, Japanese and American) being eliminated by BIG-O.

Haven't read the book(s), but, as luck would have it, I also recorded "Murderer's Row" on my DVR the other night, along with "The Silencers" when they were both aired on TCM. I'll have to look for that reference to "Eric" when I watch "Murderer's Row". Once again, thanks for replying to my question, I really appreciate it.
