A great epic
It deserves to be up there with the best of David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on the River Kwai). And definitely McQueen's best role, IMO, more so than The Great Escape or Bullitt.

Interesting info- McQueen died from lung cancer in 1980 aged 50 years.
He was a smoker and was also a mechanic in the Navy for a time and worked closely with asbestos padding.
The two are a deadly combo.
Good but I don't think it should be up there with Lean's masterpieces. It's not as rewatchable.
