Good enough

I liked this film.. Plague of the Zombies was one of the first zombie movies I ever saw, probably the first and the atmosphere tended to be that of a typical Hammer horror classic.. Without being gruesome it was scary especially for its time in the 60s.. The only qualm I have is that maybe the zombies could have hunted human flesh a little more.. They never actually forced the humans into a retreat like in other zombie classics and maybe that would have made the movie ten times more scary..As it was there was a good atmosphere and suspense but the fact the zombies never left the tin mine was a bit of a let down.. Considering that their master practised in voodoo it would have set the film alight for the zombies to have played a greater part, instead at the end it was the squire ( their evil master) who took center stage which kind of took the point away from the actual title of the movie.. But even so still a very good memorable horror movie..

You are so right! This movie is truer to our long-standing perception of zombies as voo-doo spirited creatures of the undead. The "flesh-eating" concept may well have begun with "Night of the Living Dead", I wouldn't be surprised. I loved the way the movie tied the creatures to the religious rites of Haiti. It reminded me of the earlier movies of this genre, like "White Zombie" with Bela Lugosi. Romero's zombies were much more aggressive than those that preceded them.

thats true zombies at first just walked around and did what the
voodoo queen wanted them to do.now they walk(or run in todays movies)
trying to eat people(which is scarey being eaten).todays its gore
and special makeup that keys zombie movies.
