shareTurner Classic Movies will be showing it on March 24th at 12:00 am. They seem to be having a Peter Falk mini-marathon that night. Set your VCR or DVD player!

Fun and Failure: both start out the same way
Aaaaargh! I missed a chance to record this movie again!
This is one of the great unsung caper romantic comedies of the 60s, and a great role for Natalie Wood. Obviously I love this movie, I'm gushing.
Sorry about your missing it! I saw it years ago in middle school and have never found it on VHS or DVD, so getting to see it again last night was fabulous. If I'd taped it I would definitely have sent it to you joebua!
Be sure to search both AMC's and TCM's online databases so you'll know when it's on again.

Although my favorite Natalie movie is Sex and the Single Girl, followed closely by The Great Race. I saw this movie for the first time last week and I loved it. It's so much fun and Natalie is beautiful. And I loved the bubblegum scene with her and Peter Falk. It's a great fun film.

I'm watching this movie right now. (Which raises the question—why am I posting on IMDb when I'm supposed to be watching a movie? Well, never mind . . .) It's very cute! And I love seeing Ian Bannen in a leading man role. (What a coincidence! I was just watching him last night on my DVD for "Dr. Finlay.")
shareIt is a darling movie!

I saw Penelope back in 1969, and thought it was delightful! Figuring it would be on T.V. all the time I didn't give it a second thought. Then, some 30 odd years passed, no one had heard of that movie, Video stores didn't even have it listed as one of Natalie Wood's movies, and I never saw it on T.V. again. I thought I'd fabricated the whole movie. Then, last night, there it is! It was just as charming as the first time I saw it. I was all smiles, first for getting to see it again, and second to know I hadn't been wrong about it's exsistance! When the show was over they talked about it, and I see why it dropped-off the face of the earth. Natalie received bad reviews, became depressed, and didn't do another movie for three years. (The next one being Bob, Ted, Carol, and Alice.) Natalie probably didn't want the movie circulating herself. That's too bad. She was so cute in it. Sure it was a light-hearted romp, but isn't that what makes our days bearable? A true "chick flick," romantic comedy. I just wanted to be Natalie's character! I wish Natalie was alive today, I'd write her a letter. Did you notice that Peter Falk gave birth to the Columbo character in Penelope? Not quite as bumbling, but definately the start of that fun cop character. I sure hope I can get a copy of this movie!

The minute I saw him, I knew he was Columbo. It was fun to watch him fall under her spell!
What fun for you to see it again and to know you were not crazy in knowing it existed. :)
I've never seen this movie before. I just happened to be channel surfing when I saw the opening credits. I'm so glad TCM decided to air it. It's too bad it wasn't circulated more. Who cares what the film critics say? She also showed what a gifted actress can do even when her private life is going to pieces. All the more reason to have released the movie.
Like you, I was laughing through the whole movie and found myself still grinning after it was over. I hope copies of the movie can be found somewhere.

It's sad how Penelope isn't even listed as one of Natalie Wood's movies.
Too bad Natalie isn't alive today, to see how actors/acresses don't ever seem to give a damn what the critics say. They just keep pumpin'-out the same crap over and over, sequals, and re-makes of other stuff.
I was able to find a film clip of Penelope on TCM.com
I'm going to try to contact T.C.M. to see if I can request they run Penelope again soon. I'll keep watching for it's listing, and I'll try to record it.
Loved your "Do Be Do Be Dooo" of Sinatra's, but how about "Scooby Do Be Dooo!?!"

Well said, all around. Caught it on TCM the other night, and if I'd known how much I'd like it, would definitely have taped it. Loved her clothes and the location shooting (NYC)...reminded me a bit of the NYC of "That Girl" (tv show). I wish it would come out on dvd. Natalie was just wonderful...what a loss.

Oh yeah! You hit the nail on the head on that one, with the "That Girl" comparison! Marlo Thomas was as charming in That Girl as Natalie Wood was in Penelope!

Your the only other person I know that noticed that Peter Falk's character in Columbo was obviously inspired by this role in Penelope.
shareTCM is showing this (in the UK) on the 24th May at 17.25
shareI called TNT once up in Atlanta, they told me that they sometimes lease a movie for up to 30 years, so it can be hard to get a copy unless you tape it. Unfortunately it is shown so infrequentely that it is hard to know when it is on to tape it.
