This should be remade
only retooled for the mighty, mighty messed up present.
Might I recommend David Tennant and Scarlett Johannson for the leads? Tennant has been doing a McDowell impersonation quite ably for some time.

There have been some recent Kidman performances that reminded me of weld's Barbara Ann: _To Die For_ and _Moulin Rouge_. But isn't KIdman too old to play Barbara Ann? ...but as Marie! that would be something.
shareNEVER! THERES POSITIVELY NOTHING WRONG WITH IT THERFORE. NO REMAKE! PLEASE TO GOD NO REMAKE =] =] =] =] HOWEVER PERHAPS MAYBE THEY SHOULD "REMAKE" IT BUT KIND OF PARODY IT OR PUT A WIERD TWIST IN IT, KIND OF LIKE "PSYCHO BEACH PARTY". THAT WOULD BE AWESOME =] BUT NO HARDCORE REMAKE.
shareNo it shouldn't!
I completely agree with the previous poster. This movie is an unimprovable masterpiece.
Leave classic movies alone. Then Hollywood might have to come up with some original ideas for a change.
I agree. It is a complete masterpiece and decades ahead of its time.
But if its not remade today's generation won't know of it. And the deep thought and wisdom in this movie should not be lost. I think its kind of rare.
This movie is already a type of parody. Well, maybe more of a *wicked satire*. Parodies of parodies are a like a double negative in English, it gets cancelled out, so it would be like a drama.
shareI don't wish for remakes. I prefer to stick with the originals.
shareAs tempting as it might be, think about Terry Southern, Russ Meyer, Fererico Fellini and Stanley Kubrick... and then tell me that =any= of the films they wrote or directed should be remade.
"LLaD" is a very complex work of =art=, and complex art like this is only =very= rarely replicable in any satisfactory manner.
What we should do, however, is call our local art film theaters and beg to have it screened.
And do see my review entitled "Fellini Meets Southern and Kubrick at the Playboy Club" if you're interested in a "homie's" point of view about Beverly Hills in '66 and why this film is so dead on.
This is a very special film that was a product of a very special time and place, and couldn't possibly be remade because of that. It is also unique because it was not only on top of an incredibly complex moment of cultural changes in mid sixties L.A. but also managed to be ahead of them in drawing dark conclusions during a period that perceived itself as highly optimistic. This movie could never be remade. But to the OP - Your point is still valid. Our current time could use a cinematic comeuppance, but it would have to be something wholly original, just as Lord Love a Duck was in its day.
shareI wouldn't recommend a remake, but I WOULD recommend 2 things.
1) A release (or re-release if this has already been done) on DVD & blu-ray. But not just a DVD/blu-ray release of it. Those doing so should also PROMOTE the DVD/blu-ray of it, or else nobody will even NOTICE that they released it.
2) COLORIZE it. I know that that might not be too easy, but I'm USED to NOT being color-blind. For those who want to watch it in black-&-white, I'm sure that there's some setting on your TV/laptop/whatever-you'll-watch-it-on that let you watch it in black-&-white.
---
IF I want your opinion, I'll GIVE it to you.
you know, I'll be a contrarian and say i agree with this idea. I think a lot of the themes would be applicable to a modern audience. There's a couple directors I can think of who are able to position themselves right on the intersection of pathos and humor in young adults (like the Hesses or Richard Kelly), who would do a remake proud
Absolutely NO remake! Instead it should be given a major rerelease to cinemas, with a full-on media blitz to advertise it. Barbara Ann Green is a 60s icon who still represent our society in the 21st century.

Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?
If it was to be remade what black actors would they get to play Roddy and Tuesday? Well, isn't that what happens to remakes? The music would be turned into Hip-Hop and the language would be deplorable. Sorry but it needs to be left as is with no remakes.
