Harper managed to wheddle his way back into Susan's bed when he sought comfort after getting beaten up, but they didn't back together.
Regarding Harper's wife, they don't get back together, at least according to the author of the book on which "Harper" is based. "The Moving Target", written in 1949 and made into the movie "Harper", was Ross Macdonald's first book featuring private eye Lew Archer. In the early pages of his second Archer book, "The Drowning Pool", written in 1950, Archer says, "My wife divorced me last year. Extreme mental cruelty."
