A masterpiece on so many levels

Acting, cinematography, editing, soundtrack, screenplay with witty dialogues, clever twists and some nods to detective stories cliches - all of that is just brilliant and flawless. Makes you think that Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson owe a lot to "Harper" in terms of filmmaking.

I gave it 9/10 only because I never give a maximum note after first viewing but I'm pretty sure it's gonna get it next time I watch it.

Do you have any tobacco?

With PTA, Inherent Vice owes a lot to Harper, come to think of it:

A hipster private eye, working in Los Angeles...in 1970 -- only four years after the 1966 era of Harper, though the movie was made in 2014. A kidnapped rich man. A wary friendship with an attorney(Arthur Hill in Harper; Benecio del Toro in Vice). A conflicted relationship with the cops. Scenes near the ocean.

Etc.
