The Nuns

I noticed in this film and "Le Mans," that when accidents occured there were nums who helped treat the wounded and assist the doctors. Is this accurate or
somthing thought up by the scriptwriters?
Thank You

I am not really sure but I can remember a story on the Jackie Stewart documentary "The Flying Scot" that when he had an accident at the Belgium Grand Prix at Spa in 1966 a group on nuns saw him laying on the grass naked as the fuel used in those days was irritating his skin. His car's cockpit was full of it. Thank the lord a marshall that was having a cigarette didn't try to be of assistance!!!:-) Getting back to to the nuns; They didn't help him they were quite shocked LOL!!!!! I think the use of nuns in accidents maybe false as Jackie didn't know why they were there. They told Graham Hill to dress him but he explained Jackie's predicament!!!!!:-) Mind you it could be a thing that The French did as I think I saw a nun after Scott Stoddard had his accident in Monaco during the hospital scene, and Le Mans is also part of France.

You may both be too young to remember, but in 1960s Catholic hospitals it was very common for the nursing staff to be composed entirely of nuns (in the same fashion that the faculty at Catholic schools were comprised of nuns or brothers depending upon the order of the sponsoring branch of the Church). Now, Cathoic hospitals run by the Church are very rare (some retain a religious name; ie. "St. Eligus", even though they are now owned and managed by a municipality or a private medical organization) and, in large part, employ the laity as professional nurses, much as Catholic schools now employ lay teachers. France, and the Principality, being heavily Catholic in the 60s, would certainly have a Catholic Hospital and professional nursing staffs in the sisterhood.
