No wonder this thing is so ridiculous......
...the director is responsible for several of Jerry Lewis's juvenile flicks from the 60s.

shareAdmittedly Tashlin was a genius for WB cartoons, but not that great with live action shoots.
shareWell, it's supposed to be romantic comedy in the tradition of reserved WASPy America; i.e. don't be a jerk, don't draw attention to yourself, and let the girls have their fun as the guys pulls the strings, only to have the female get her revenge.
Truth be told it's not that funny at all, but it's very endearing, and Doris Day is quite a feast for the eyes in this film.
Truth be told I think Tashlin should have stuck with directing animation. But, in retrospect I think this film is exactly what he wanted. A comedy? Eh, maybe in form and packaging, but not in execution.
Still, for me, this film brings back a time when people like Doris Day existed. They were your neighbors, and weren't rude nor obnoxious and didn't draw attention to themselves. When films like this, as blase as they could be, reflected a kinder US that most people aspired to.
And that's why I like this film in spite of its "flat" unfunny quality. Because truth be told it was just meant to be a romantic tale told from the Doris Day point of view.
I have no idea what you are saying...
shareYou commented that this film was "so ridiculous", and I explained why people like you believe it so, but that it's meant to be that way intentionally because of the social behavioral norms of the time.
shareI am aware of the time period. That is not the point. Nor do I require an explanation of what people "like I" believe. A good film is a good film. A ridiculous film is a ridiculous film.
shareIt is ridiculous. But it's a romantic comedy spy spoof told from a female perspective. That verse the film the did the year after, "Caprice" which is an actual spy film told from the traditional audience perspective.
