The Atari 2600 game

Anyone remember this one? Kinda odd to make a game based on a then 15+ year old movie, but it's hard to argue that the premise of the movie isn't tailor made for a video game.

Just the studio taking advantage of properties they controlled. M*A*S*H, The Towering Inferno, and Planet Of The Apes were some others. Home Video was gaining ground at the time, so there was a little bit of logic to the strategy.

The successful merchandizing campaign of Star Wars changed everything. The runaway popularity of video games (and the 2600 platform in particular) was easy money. Fox had a list of titles available, and programmers could just take one to make a game for them. That is exactly what the programmer did here.
