Why does Julie Christie play both parts?
Doesn't anyone else think it's odd for the same actress to play both Linda and Clarisssa?

shareApparently, it's a symbol of how the two characters are opposite sides of the same coin. Real-life reasons? Budget-to-star power ratio.
shareI believe it is just one more brilliant prophecy by Bradbury ie to cloning.
he sure got all the others right
and this is taken up by Cloud Atlas where the new "Messiah" Sonmi 451 [ie named after this movie] is a clone - or Fabricant.

So, was Bradbury the casting director?
shareDoesn't anyone else think it's odd for the same actress to play both Linda and Clarisssa?I didn't think it was odd, different perhaps. What I think odd was that Guy doesn't show much physical attraction in either woman, though he's clearly influenced by Clarissa's ideas. share
Truffaut was able to secure financing of the movie on the strength of casting Julie Christie, who was in demand at the time.
However, when it came to casting Clarissa, they couldn't find the right actress until someone suggested using Christie as a flip side of Linda.
