Boris Karloff

Karloff is most identifiable with horror movies and his three portrayals of Frankenstien's monster. But he had a love and understanding of fairy tales and children's stories and his narration of this is one of his greatest. Add to that the artistry of Churck Jones (yes, there were scenes when the Grinch reminded me of Bugs Bunny), and this is one of the all time great Christmas Cartoons.

Karloff's marvelously sonorous and whimsical narration is one of the key reasons this cartoon works as well as it does. His soothing velvet smooth voice was perfect as the Grinch.

Nobody does W.C. Fields singing "Mama Told Me Not to Come" better than Paul Frees.

Whoda thunk it, but he's perfect for the part.

As a 7 yr old child when this first aired...the Grinch was my very first experience of Boris Karloff.....When I got older I loved all the horror films he made, but he also treasured several recordings of him reading childrens stories including Hans Christian Anderson.....he had a perfect voice for storytelling.....something the general public may never been aware of had it not been so perfectly captured in The Grinch.....
