Aha, hold it right there! ...punctuation trouble!
Somehow I always interpreted the ending of the show two ways - the verse that goes:
Welcome, Christmas, bring your cheer. Cheer to all Whos far and near. Christmas Day is in our grasp so long as we have hands to clasp.
It's clearly welcoming Christmas...but I didn't hear the comma and took it as an entreaty for us to welcome Christmas, if we were so bombarded with the selling and the noise and the stress and the manufactured cheeriness that we kind of sympathized with the Grinch. Still works for me...
