Saw it tonight on the big screen
It was at a revival house in L.A. I had only seen this film on TV, edited, so it was a treat to see it at its original 130 minute running time. Truly, a depressing film, but interesting to see actors Richard Bradford, Robert Duvall(With hair!), Martha Hyer, Angie Dickenson, James Fox and even a very young Paul Williams interact. E.G. Marshall in several scenes looks uncannily like George W. Bush and the film does take place in Texas. Full of drunken debauchery and people that lack morals who easily turn on each other at the drop of a hat, it could be representative of today's society rather than the 50's which the book and play were created. Great music by John Barry that has a hint of his Bond style of magic as well as a touch of "The Knack" thrown in for the score. Redford is quite effective as "Bubber," but all to briefly seen and although I don't like Jane Fonda as a person, she's very good in her role, but its Brando's show and he does have some great lines.
