Janice Rule

I loved Janice Rule in "The Chase" -- an excellent performance in a much-underrated movie -- and I was struck by her physical resemblance to Cate Blanchett.

reply

You really think she looked like Cate Blanchett? Red hair - yes, but that's all.

reply

I agree that, physically, she resembles Cate Blanchett. But their affinity flows more from demeanor...the cachet in Rule's smile and that worldliness about her eyes that seems, at once, able both to doubt you and support you. A good-time girl who yet understands the twin nature of the bottom line--the need for both money and love.

reply

Ms. Rule should have been nominated for Supporting Actress for this film

reply

Janice Rule should've have dropped everything at the time and married me!

reply

No way. I was first in line! :-)

Had I known that she eventually became a psychologist in New York, I'd have moved there and commenced therapy immediately.

I totally agree. Other actresses have WON the Oscar for far less of performances. Rule was robbed.

You really got to be kidding! Cate Blanchett? Not in a million years!

I agree...also she was great in 3 Women a year later. I loved this film and was always surprised by the negative critical reaction.

She was brilliant in "3 Women" but that was TEN years later, dear.

eleven years.

She also played Burt Lancaster character's old flame in "The Swimmer."

reply

Now I know why Hugh Hefner wanted her to pose for Playboy. But Ben Gazzara, her husband at the time, apparently was vehemently opposed to it.

reply

Agreed. She was a classy Class A lady, far ore talented than many in her generation and she never quite got the star treatment she deserved. Her character alone is a stand out element in the story, and her direct performance is beyond outstanding.
