Jake breaks one of the big wine bottles and then they both drink wine poured over the broken glass. You can ingest pieces of glass that way.

I had exactly the same thought when I saw that scene. This is an example of artistic license and "don't try this at home".

Similarly, the scene where the drunken man fires a pistol into the ceiling in the house. It happens on TV all the time but doesn't make any sense.

That's not wine. It was champagne, and yes can be opened that way by an expert.

It's quite possible to shoot into the ceiling. As long as nobody's in the vicinity upstairs, no problem. Just a little spackle.
