Worth Watching?
FOX Classics is going to be airing here (AUS) in the next week, should I bother with it?

shareYes, it's not bad at all. Interesting to see Brando, Fonda, and Redford so young.
It's a good film, but not great and Brando, Fonda, Rule, and Duvall are very good.

Oh yes Brando is just amazing!!
shareDepends on how forgiving you are.
You might be disappointed with the style being too much studio-like, the actors being a little too melodramatic, or story being a little too cluttered. Apparently it isn't the director's fault; he was furious about the outcome. It was the producer's fault in taking over the editing.
Then again you might watch a lot of films and be able to appreciate this one's uniqueness.
I watched it because I'm going through a Jane Fonda phase. Just finished watching They Shoot Horses, Don't They? and Klute. She's nowhere as good in this one but I guess that's because she didn't really get much of a chance because of so many actors.

It's going to be a bumpy night!"
My point is that Jane Fonda has put in much better performances in other films and suggested a reason.
My response to the OP is that this film is not one of the best films out there.
I'm not sure what you're getting at.
Ha, so you went through a Jane Fonda phase, too?
There's something captivating, even intoxicating, about some of her performances.
I think it was California Suite and Agnes of God that kind of made me sit up and pay attention to her. And then I started going back and watching some of her other stuff.
I did not, however, like The Chase. What a muddied, messy movie. There was too much happening and only very little of it worth paying attention to.
I suppose I've just no affinity or patience for the mundane aspects of drama, especially when said aspects circulate around the drunkenness of the gentry.
Oh, all the actors are fine except for Redford. And I'm not sure Marshall was too convincing as an oil kingpin.
But the cast is the reason to watch.
The script had problems, obviously.

Non-sequiturs are delicious.
I see that all but one of the replies were posted after the air-date. So, did you see it?
shareI think it's worth watching, simply because of the excellent cast, and because it's interesting to see how one man's escaping from the jail had a ripple effect on almost everyone in this small town---I wasn't bored for one instant watching this----there's more than enough constant drama going on for everybody to watch.
