Hitler in the movie?

There is a scene in the movie where a dispatcher interupts a social gathering of the pilots to deliver a message to George Mason(the general). The message informs everyone that the great offensive of 1918 (ie, operation Micheal) is to finaly begin.
The dispatcher looks alot like a young Hitler. Hitler was a messenger during his long time on the front.
Has anyone else noticed this?

No, and I doubt if very many others did either. This movie went to great lengths to distance itself from any association with WWII so I sincerely doubt that the director would deliberately give the audience a "sneak preview" at the next war! Hitler was not, in 1918 anyway, particulary distinctive looking. A lot of people, particulary in Central Europe, could be said to resemble Hitler (without the mustache).

Actually artisticengineer i noticed that the messenger looked alot like hitler, unfortunately even if it were supposedly Hitler in his youthful days, he only had his patented moustache after becoming leader of the Nazi party, not in WW1.

I doubt they would put him in this anyway, as the idea of a movie about the protagonist killing the allied forces (whose decendants will make up most of the audience) is risky enough without Hitler turning up for a cameo.

I was half expecting him to be in the hospital though from the mustard gas

Actually, there is a very famous photo of a young Hitler with his famous moustache. It was taken right after Austria had declared war 1914, Hitler was in the crowd of well wishers.
I have the film on CD and watched it again. The messenger looks very much like a young Hitler, albiet maybe a little heavier.
This film was made before VHS/CD,so only someone with a very sharp eye would have picked it up in the theater. I think it would have been a clever gimmick

Hitler would have seemed an odd person to be working an air show well away from the front lines. He was in combat for much of the war, and recovering from serious injuries during the rest of it. Call him a lot of things, and bad ones at that, but "in the rear with the gear" was not his M.O. until the next war. Also, like previous posters, I recall him having a fuller moustache, almost like a handlebar, in that decade.

Well, Hitler was a messenger during WW1. He also was gassed during the last offensive not before it. So, it is concievable that the producer/director might put in a character that would entice future film buffs. As I mentioned earlier, the scene is very short and one would have to have a CD to actually review it.

I made the same observation and had the same thought last night when I watched the DVD. But they never put the messenger in the frame again, so I couldn't confirm what I thought I saw, and didn't think it was worth it to rewind and look again. Glad I wasn't just imagining it!
