John Carradine - Vampire?

Why isn't he credited as Dracula?

Actually, Carradine was not Dracula's son. That was Lon Chaney Jr., Carradine was the actual Dracula in HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and HOUSE OF DRACULA.

I was wondering why they never addressed him by name. Dracula has been in the public domain since the 1950s though. It was revealed during that decade that Bram Stoker never properly secured the copyright. That's how Hammer was able to make their picture eight years earlier.

It still kinda begs the question as to why he goes unnamed. Maybe it was originally going to be Billy the Kid versus the Vampire, but then decided that "Dracula" had more drawing power.

I always wondered that myself, though your theory about the name in the title being more drawing power is the best theory I've heard on it.

reply

Beats me. Maybe Dracula took out a restraining order to prevent them from using his name.

reply

Oh Yeah?. Well, where was he when they made ''Dracula's Dog''?.

They didn't own the rights to the character so they couldn't use the name. That's what I read. But then again, they got away with using it in the title. They would've had to pay royalties if they used the name Dracula in the movie.
