Great Movie...and Music/Song!

I'm 74 years old and for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the song played near the end of the movie. I love that banjo and honky-tonk piano tune. Can anyone help me? Better still, where can I purchase it?

Hi Sandy,
Hope you check back because I'm going to answer your question-----

The Title of the song is "Ma Blushing Rosie" from the Broadway musical "Fiddle Dee-Dee" (1900) Edgar Smith/ John Stromberg

Al Jolson sang this song too.

I love the song---with the Saloon singer and the banjos ringing and Burgess Meredith blowing her kisses as he contemplates how he's going to live a sweet life after toiling away as a Dr for 40 yrs.

"Rosie, you are my posie
You are my hearts bouquet
Come out, here in the moonlight
There's something sweet, love
I wanna say

Your honey boy I'm waiting
Those ruby lips to greet
Don't be so captivating

Ma blushin Rosie
Ma Rosie sweet......and so on....

John who is a mere 68 yrs old.

Hi, jael-5: I needed this answer to Sandy also! Just happened to see your reply. By the way, the singer is MARILYN POWELL, a one-time movie appearance by her. I get goose bumps every time I hear her. I'm looking for her rendition too...completely sung. Thanks for you serendipitous help. Bruce at [email protected]....Glastonbury, CT. P.S. We seasoned citizens have our good tastes, don't we? My twin bro and I just hit 75.

Hello Bruce,
I'm glad to have been of some service to you regarding the song as sung by Marilyn Powell

I'm with you about goose bumps when I hear/watch her sing it.

I got hooked by that song the first time I saw the film on TV some yrs before I had a PC. Computers are amazing things as research tools huh?

Yes I guess we are in the Old Guys Good Taste Club!

GREAT!! Thanks for the information and lyrics. As I read the words of the song my memory jumped back in time, I started singing/humming the words BEFORE I read them. Had to have heard it in the early 1930s, probably from Al Jolson! The movie "A Big Hand For the Little Lady" only tempted me in trying to jog my memory over that tune...but failed. Your response didn't!

Thanks again.

I am a mere tot of 60, but I like the version of "Ma Blushin' Rosie" in the film, as sung by Marilyn Powell. I'm guessing that this particular version may not be available outside of the movie, so my plan is to buy the DVD and transfer the song as is to a different medium. This is similar to what I did with Michael Caine's "It's Over" rendition from Little Voice. In fact, I should have enough space on the disc to add "...Rosie" right after Caine. Another one I like is "Goodbye, Little Yellow Bird" from The Picture Of Dorian Gray (1945), performed by Angela Lansbury and according to IMDB, reprised by Donna Reed (dubbed by Doreen Tryden).

Sandy, if you're 74 (or 76 now), you would have been too little when the song "first" came out with Jolson singing it in the 30s.

I'll tell you where you did hear it though - in the movie The Jolson Story in 1946, when you would have been 13. If you haven't seen that movie, or Jolson Sings Again, run, don't walk, to go see it now. It was my mother's favorite movie, and the songs are magical.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I like the Al Jolson version much, much better. He puts some swing into it, y'know? I've always loved this song from The Jolson Story, or Jolson Sings Again, which were among my mom's favorite movies.
