This movie sucks
The movie was just boring and stupid and *beep* 3/10.
If you ask, no i'm not a fan of Nolan's Batman films either.

Great, thanks for your opinion. A lot of people here love this movie, including myself, why did you think it was boring and stupid? It's supposed to be silly, the camp is intentional, which is what makes it so funny for some people.

I don't know if its just me but when a movie is supposed to be silly, I don't like it... i think i don't like silly movies in general (Austin Powers is another example). Sometimes a movie which isn't perfect (Batman Returns?) but at least has the intention of being a great, dark take on the famous bat is more appealing to me than a movie which tries to be silly or make fun of the batman series. I think i look more at the intention of the director and the rest of the crew rather than what comes out of it.
shareWhat is wrong with a movie being silly if it's supposed to be?
sharethat's what I was pointing out. not the fact it was silly but more that the intention of it was to be silly. (Im speaking for myself that is!, everyone is entitled to their opinion). and when i say silly, its a special kind of silly as well. i enjoy what you would call "silly movies" like The Mask, Hot Rod, Rat Race.. but there's a kind of silly which is the parody kind. that's why I usually hate parodies. first because they don't make me laugh and second because they are parodies. obviously we've got the classic ones like Airplane, which no matter how many times i watch i always laugh.. but even this.. i don't get the high rating? its a parody.. a movie which only tries to copy another/or a couple of other movies and make it in a funny way. anyway, then we have the bad parodies, which are the ones that don't make me laugh (all the Seltzer and Friedberg movies lately are an example but so is West's Batman)
shareWhen I was a kid I swa this movie and never understand the following:
1. Given that arch enemies always were really outrageous costumes what was the point in them wearing masks?
2. Why did every device in the batcave have a label describing its function, including the batpoles? Its as if they suffered from Alzeimers...
1. Catwoman couldn't reveal herself as "Kitka"
shareNot my kind of humor...although there was one really funny part where Robin asks Batman where the elevator goes and Batman says "well it goes down obviously" or something along those lines. Still a bad movie and it just wasn't entertaining to me.
shareIs that the scene at the United World building where Batman reads all the languages for the elevator and understands all of them but doesn't press the button until he has read the English word 'Up'?
That scene cracks me up every time. You didn't find the 'somedays you just can't get rid of a bomb!' line funny?
Well, if it's not your type of humour, fair enough, each to his own.

No, it's after they have rehydrated the United World guys. The 'up' button joke was hilarious indeed!
Never having seriously watched the original batman series ('75 guy), I didn't really care for this either. It sure had its fun moments, but a lot of the jokes really didn't stand the test of time very well. I guess with a lot of nostalgia, beer and being a fan of the series it is much more enjoyable.
Also, if you take it as a camp comedy and realise everything is meant to be funny and ridiculous but played straight, then it becomes hilarious. Well, to me anyway. And I was born in '76 so I watched repeats of this on TV for my introduction to Pure West.

bram-60 you are meant to take it as tongue in cheek with silly jokes. It's not meant to be great comedy lol.
shareActually the scene takes place when they run (because their "tip-top condition" is apparent "faster" than a taxi, xD) to the UN to warn the bureaucrats before they go "dehydrated."
shareDisagree. I love this movie. It is one of my favorites. It is the perfect portrayal of campy Batman. Burgess Meredith as Penguin is my favorite villain in it.
shareCamp humor at its best...and I ate up every utterance and move of Lee Meriwether's deliciously slinky and evil Catwoman!
shareShe was definitely the best part of the movie. I always missed out on the Penguin yapping about his "plans" because Lee Merriwther effortlessly stole scenes just by laying her legs and licking her claws. xD It def. came in handy when she became so passive in the second half of the movie. She didn't even put up a fight (or her claws) when Robin handcuffed her at the end!
shareCatwoman lounges around in such provocative positions, you find yourself oblivious to everything around her. She also steals scenes by getting sexually aroused when committing evil. I found her quite the "cowardly kitty" when the submerged sub was under attack, but not passive at all once it surfaces. Once she emerges to join the fight, she steals the whole scene! She actually did put up her claws(and hissed) but as you say, didn't put up a fight when being handcuffed by Robin.
I wonder how many males remember this movie only for Lee Meriwether....
If you do not like this movie you're either a) much too young b) never watched the TV series c) have been brainwashed by high tech current versions d) have no sense of humor for campy movies or e) any combination of the above.
I love it, though I don't think I was able to see it when it came out (I was only four).
I don't think this movie sucks, although that may be because I saw it when it was released and remember the TV series. It's meant to be camp, notice how everyone is way over the top in their roles except Adam West who so underplays Batman/Bruce Wayne as to make them background for the others. Sit back and enjoy it, silly as it is, it's not offensive like so many recent films.
shareAgree. The movie is supposed to be campy and the actors play it the way it's meant to be for the tone of it. It all works and the movie is so much fun.
shareWell I never actually saw the TV movie Batman, so I don't have an opinion on that.
However, I also don't care for the latest Batman movies (directed by Nolan).
I prefer the CAMPY Batman movies. I like the dark and Gothic ones, directed by Tim Burton and the bright and colorful ones directed by Joel Schumacher (sp?)
The Nolan movies are the best. I hate Tim Burton's and Joel Schumacher's.
shareI'd love a mix of Nolan and Burton.
Tim Burton had the better town design... Gotham City like it should look while Nolan's Gotham City is just some generic American metropolis. Lame, no style.
Nolan had the better Batman and villains design though.

Lincoln Lee: I lost a partner.
Peter Bishop: I lost a universe!
I like the Adam West Batman for campy fun.
I like Tim Burton and Chris Nolan's takes on it.
I like the animated series
Not particularly keen on Joel Schumacher's films. And I haven't seen the 1940s serials
If you're into some good ol' campy fun (and with the one and only Batman to boot), then there's a good chance you'll like this movie. If not, well...
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
