Given that this is one of the best films I've ever seen, I think it deserves to be ranked along such timeless classics as "Toy Story"
Perhaps it would be unfair to rank this alongside conventional movies though? This movie is in a genre of its on. I can't even think about it the same way I think about other movies.
The Top 250 is all about what the people want at the top. It's not supposed to be a reflection of film critics, pseudo-intellectuals and what-else, but just a mere collection of votes by random moviewatchers. If you want all your italian neorealism movies to be on top, you could start a forum where you could all sit and circlejerk about your unknown movies that no one else knows. I know that it feels "wrong" that a movie you know and love, which might deserve a top spot, is nowhere to be found on the list, but please..
I, for one, is happy that the list reflects the opinion of the people and NOT a circle of highly rated moviecritics.
I'm sorry if this rant came off as bitter; I assure you that I'm not. I just have HORRIBLE hangover and thus I will now leave. Goodnight.
The IMDB top 250 films are heavily skewed toward English-language films, especially Hollywood films.
Some people here don't even watch foreign-language films, let alone vote for them.
You have to accept the fact that most voters are reared on Hollywood films, and they will naturally orientate themselves toward the kind of fare produced by Hollywood.
I'm sure an IMDB in Hindi will see a Bollywood movie at the top, same logic applies.
It doesn't *really* matter if Au Hasard, Balthazar is in the Top 250. Anybody who knows cinema outside the US would know about it anyway, whether they like it or not.
